LEARNING AND CURRICULUM AT CEDAR NURSERY

PROMOTING CURIOSITY, INQUIRY, AND CREATIVITY

Our children are encouraged to learn through play and active involvement. We support our children’s learning and development through observation and continuous assessment, building on their skills and knowledge every day through responsive and adult led planning.

“Creativity sits alongside inquiry and problem solving. Being creative is not just about painting and model making or making music, although these are highly important for children, but also includes reasoning out, testing and solving problems, putting things together and taking them apart and figuring out how things work. Early mathematics and numeracy are closely interlinked with inquiry and creativity and is best achieved in practical meaningful contexts for children where they make sense of the world about them.”

Building the Ambition

ONLINE LEARNING JOURNALS

We use Online Learning Journals to support our assessment and progression of our children’s development. Through the journals, we can track our children’s development and learning, set targets, and most importantly share this information with parents as it happens.

WELLBEING

At Cedar Nursery & After School Care, our families value the nurturing and caring attitude that our staff team offer all the children and families. Many of our families have attended Cedar for a number of years and they all comment on the nurturing and positive ethos. The children’s wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do - we strive to ensure that our children and families are happy and settled.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is vital in all areas of life, but especially at an early age. These years are when they are making their needs and wants known. So, it is important to us that we foster positive forms of communication with our families and children.

OUTDOOR FUN AT CEDAR

We have wonderful outdoor area, which supports our children in being safe while taking the risk to try something new as well as engage in active/energetic play every day.

We have lots of fun areas for them to explore, including a space to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) learning. The children are big fans of using loose parts and problem-solving techniques.

We also have staff trained in "Mini Kickers and "Play on Pedals” to encourage our little adventurers.

Our children are outside every day and we also regularly go on enrichening local walks to Lenzie Moss, local parks, and library etc.

OUR VISION FOR DEDICATED CHILDCARE

At Cedar Nursery, children are our focus and are at the centre of our planning. That’s why we’re dedicated to our vision and aims for promoting child development at our nursery.
